Every year, I hear the collective buzz from people all around me extolling their love for fall. As summers pass, each one of us seems to look forward to cooler temperatures and all the excitement ahead with this particularly wonderful season.

Firstly, white serves as a great palate cleanser for the eye. Allowing us a moment to pause, it prevents areas from becoming too overloaded with color and activity.

When you are expecting a new little presence in your home, the list of tasks involved in the preparation can be intimidating. Not only do you have to plan for this child’s future, but you might also feel the need to consider the space in which this baby will grow up, and make sure that the room feels just right, in order to help nurture your little one.

As an aesthetically-conscious bunch of designers here at Turnstyle Design, we are constantly keeping our eyes open for those unique pieces which make us feel special, feel at home, or any other such positive feeling.

Architecture is at the heart of all interior design, with ceilings often overlooked in terms of their significance. Bring a historical context and some age into the equation, and one can easily come upon a structured upward view that’s ever so breathtaking.

Open floor plans are a wonderful way to make a home feel inclusive. However, no walls and ill-defined areas can leave us with too much visibility not to mention a lack of understanding on how to use the house in particular.

Lucky us! Our Turnstyle Design team had the perfect start to the holiday season this year: Christmas music, festive decorating and ultimately a day spent with a favorite client.

Of the many elements that one has to work with in any given environment, the humble medium of paper is often left off the list. Well, not if you have the talents of one of my colleagues Ashley Gierke. She, rather insightfully, treats this simple material with more reverence than usual.

So when it comes to finishing up a space, as you can imagine, there are lots of details one needs to put attention to. The old adage: the details are everything, are truly…everything.

For one of our kitchen projects we are finishing up, we fell hard in love with this abalone shell tile. Right?! I mean, of course, we had to have it. But sometimes it hurts to be pretty and said tile was no easy exception.

We always love installation days. Our most recent project had us designing a better-appointed entryway to accommodate two new little feet, and a dining area that’s intended to get this lovely new family around the table…and lots of others!

Most of us dream of owning Modern. Even if we may never get there – this weekend allowed us at least a little glimpse in – since it was time for the always fun, very voyeuristic Austin Modern Home Tour.

My sphere collection is my most treasured possession. I have been collecting spheres for over 8 years and am always on the lookout for any new ones to add. Of course, I am somewhat selective in terms of whichever make the cut—I try to avoid sporting balls since those are so predictable.

Recently, we completed a project that as always, required very some customized design. With an outside entryway staircase bare of its railing, we were on hand to produce something beautiful yet of course functional, but further than that, something that felt had always been a part of the home’s original design.

Something modern is quickly becoming a classic, and it’s now commonly seen in spaces everywhere, namely floating shelves. Functional, options a plenty and varied in length, they are often quite a purposeful solution.
